At Tuomey Healthcare System, we are working hard every day to bring you the miracle of medicine. Read below for more information on our current billboard campaign: Medicine. Miracles.
The Miracle of Vision
At Tuomey Healthcare System, it is all about the Miracle of Medicine. And for Ann McJunkin, it’s the Miracle of Vision. Ann, at 73 years old, had worn glasses for more than 60 years. It was a part of her life that she had just become accustomed to. But a few years ago, she needed cataract surgery. Unfortunately, the surgery did not go as planned. That’s when she went to visit Dr. James Goodson. He was able to discover exactly what went wrong and got her the care she needed. Ann recently told the folks at Tuomey that “being able to see at a distance is such a gift,” and that “had it not been for the advice of Dr. Goodson,” she would still be wearing those thick glasses. “He’s the only person I trust with my eyes,” Ann said. And now, after more than 60 years, she doesn’t need glasses at all. Medicine. Miracles. It’s happening everyday at Tuomey.

The Miracle of Life
At Tuomey Healthcare System, it is all about the Miracle of Medicine. And for Kim Peasley-Parker, it’s the Miracle of Life. She and her husband had a very difficult time having a baby. Their first son died during labor. This was devastating for her family. Two additional pregnancies ended in miscarriages during the first trimester. Desperately wanting a child, Kim became pregnant a fourth time, and at the age of 42 her doctor was going to make sure this baby survived. Dr. Lana Latham spent countless hours working with Kim, monitoring the pregnancy and making sure the baby would be OK. At 36 weeks, Dr. Latham admitted Kim to Tuomey, and a week later, she gave birth to a beautiful daughter named Maddie. Medicine. Miracles. It’s happening every day at Tuomey.

The Miracle of Strength
At Tuomey Healthcare System, it is all about the Miracle of Medicine. And for Freddie Motte, it’s the Miracle of Strength. Freddie had a very difficult time doing the simple things in life. Walking. Visiting friends and family. Parking and going into a store. The pain, swelling and stiffness in his knees became almost unbearable. The advanced arthritis in both knees was overwhelming for the 62-year-old. Dr. Danny Ford of Sumter Orthopaedic Associates worked tirelessly with Freddie to help him regain the quality of life he so wanted. After traditional medicine and therapy failed to give significant relief, Dr. Ford completed a total knee replacement on his left leg in 2008 and his right knee earlier this year. Two surgeries that gave Freddie his life back. Medicine. Miracles. It’s happening every day at Tuomey.

The Miracle of Second Chances
At Tuomey Healthcare System, it is all about the Miracle of Medicine. And for Ben Raffield, it’s the Miracle of Second Chances. Ben came to the Tuomey Emergency Department late last year with severe stomach pain. The 70-year-old knew it was no ordinary stomachache, but he had no idea how serious his condition was. He was admitted to Tuomey, and soon diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm – oftentimes, a fatal diagnosis. Fortunately for Ben, he was in the care of skilled vascular surgeon Dr. Hans Brings. Since the aneurysm was at 11 cm, and they usually rupture between 5 and 6 cm, time was of the essence. In a five-hour surgery, with the odds stacked against him, Dr. Brings saved Ben’s life. In just over a week, Ben walked out of the hospital and back into his life – taking care of his grandson and planting his garden. Medicine. Miracles. It’s happening every day at Tuomey.

The Miracle of Hope
At Tuomey Healthcare System, it is all about the Miracle of Medicine. And for Marlene Norton, it’s the Miracle of Hope. At the age of 74, Marlene is about as active as someone 20 years her junior and stays in great shape. You would never guess her age! So when something wasn’t quite right, Marlene took immediate notice and visited her family doctor. Something we should all do on a regular basis. And her quick-thinking physician sent her for a colonoscopy. After visiting Dr. Floyd Angus, and completing the tests, it was discovered that Marlene did in fact have colon cancer. Dr. Angus made the diagnosis quickly, and Dr. Henry Moses performed her successful surgery. And the rapid response meant NO chemotherapy or radiation. A team effort of top-notch doctors, working to give Marlene her life back. Medicine. Miracles. It’s happening every day at Tuomey.
